Ceará’s Strategic Agenda: The Forces Driving the New Ceará Agribusiness
FORTALEZA – Anyone visiting the Mezzanine auditoriums at the Ceará Event Center faces a unanimous diagnosis among investors and market analysts: Ceará is redefining the concept of added value in the field. In the second report of our special series on PECBRASIL 2026, the focus shifts to Apiculture and Precision Fruit Cultivation—two verticals that converge management technology and sustainability to conquer the most demanding global markets and generate foreign exchange revenues in dollars and euros for the state.
The event, jointly promoted by FAEC, SENAR/CE, and SEBRAE/CE, shines a light on how the introduction of biotechnology and origin certifications are transforming the semi-arid region into a highly competitive export hub.
The Liquid Gold of the Outback: Apiculture and the Frontiers of Innovation
Ceará’s apiculture is experiencing an accelerated expansion, charting steep growth curves in production volume. Within the Apiculture and Meliponiculture segment of PECBRASIL, coordinated by Hiara Menezes, the prime corporate highlight was the discussion surrounding honey-based products focused on innovation and added value. One of the major success stories presented was Melka Alimentos Naturais, led by agricultural engineer Melca Macedo, which demonstrates how the sector has evolved past bulk commodity sales to focus on premium packaged products for the end consumer.
Beyond traditional honey from the Apis mellifera bee, the seminar brought deep scientific discussions regarding the management and conservation of honey from native stingless bees, such as the jandaíra. Experts from IFCE Limoeiro do Norte Campus demonstrated modern pasteurization and preservation methods, unlocking a new gourmet and pharmaceutical market niche for Caatinga’s biodiversity.
Another profitability vector debated by scientists from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) was induced agricultural pollination. The planned deployment of beehives within commercial fruit orchards not only elevates honey quality but also enhances fruit setting and boosts crop yields by up to 30%, creating a flawless commercial symbiosis between beekeepers and fruit growers.
Precision Fruit Cultivation: Low Carbon and International Traceability
Under the coordination of Antonio Erildo Lemos Pontes, the Fruit Cultivation segment of PECBRASIL outlined the sector’s macroeconomic landscape in panels that featured key leadership, including José Eduardo Brandão Costa, Executive Director of ABRAFRUTAS. The core focus of the discussions rested upon sustainability and measuring the carbon footprint in the field.
Embrapa Tropical Agroindustry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) presented the guidelines of the ABC+ Program, focusing on technologies for the consolidation of a low-carbon fruit cultivation matrix. For international buyers—especially the European market—the certification that a fruit was produced while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and rationalizing water use is now a prerequisite just as critical as size or flavor.
The international panel highlighted the physiological determinants required to extend the post-harvest longevity of sensitive crops, such as export-grade mangoes and grapes, ensuring the product reaches its destination ports with pristine freshness. The event also addressed phytosanitary threats to banana cultivation and brought to the table the new coconut cycle in the Northeast, defending the triad of industry, scale, and export as drivers for regional transformation.
The Strategic Outlook of the CTN Hub

For the CTN Hub (Ceará Today Network) ecosystem, the consolidation of these two verticals reinforces the safety of the state’s business environment. Organic honey and Ceará’s certified fruits have ceased to be mere agricultural subproducts to become high-tech assets with strong ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) appeal.
The institutional governance promoted by FAEC and the internationalization tools of the agroBR project, presented in detail during the seminar, function as a stamp of guarantee for global investors. Ceará’s fields prove, at PECBRASIL 2026, that technical sophistication is the key to transforming natural resources into consistent global revenues.
Ceará Global: Good business starts here.
In the next article of our special series, we will analyze “The Protein Revolution and Cycle Reduction,” highlighting the advancements in genetics and feedlots within beef and dairy cattle farming in the semi-arid region.
