Science and Innovation on Ceará’s Radar
FORTALEZA – Ceará’s energy transition ecosystem, widely recognized for its leadership in attracting industrial and commercial investments to the Green Hydrogen (H2V) Hub at the Port of Pecém, has gained a strategic new point of national convergence. On August 13 and 14, 2026, the city of Curitiba (PR) will host the 1st Brazilian Hydrogen Seminar (1SBH2).
Held at the Polytechnic Center of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), the seminar is organized by the Brazilian Hydrogen Association (ABH2). It emerges as an unprecedented initiative dedicated to paving the scientific, technological, and academic foundation that will sustain the country’s multi-billion-dollar decarbonization projects currently underway.
For Ceará, which is advancing rapidly in consolidating structured pre-contracts with major energy players, the event plays a vital role. The practical success of large-scale industrial plants depends directly on the development of advanced materials, electrochemical efficiency, and new storage pathways—themes that will be at the core of the debates at 1SBH2.
Under the Motto “Science for Innovation and Entrepreneurship”
The seminar was conceived to bring the brightest minds from universities closer to industrial decision-makers and public policy developers. The event’s schedule was designed to create a dense ecosystem for knowledge exchange through:
- Roundtables and Technical Lectures: Deep-dive discussions with specialists and prominent sector leaders focused on innovation and sustainability.
- Scientific Sessions: Oral presentations of cutting-edge research and digital poster exhibitions showcasing vanguard academic works.
- Exhibition Fair: A dedicated space for companies and brands to present their solutions and technologies to the market.
The panels and thematic tracks cover critical and highly sensitive areas for the logistical and commercial operation of low-carbon hydrogen, including applied electrochemistry, advanced materials development, fuel cells, certification, and instrumentation, as well as crucial topics like safety, modeling, transport, and long-haul storage.
Human Capital Development and the Hydrogen Hackathon
One of the major bottlenecks pointed out by international consultants for the consolidation of the “Hydrogen Economy” in the Northeast is the pressing need for a highly qualified workforce. Aligned with this demand, the 1SBH2 highlights the Hydrogen Hackathon as a special feature.
Targeted at students and young professionals, the Hackathon will gather interdisciplinary teams from across the nation to develop practical technological solutions, digital models, innovative tools, and experimental prototypes. This initiative directly stimulates creativity and entrepreneurship focused on applied science, generating the human capital required to lead Industry 4.0 in the coming years.
Ceará’s Strategic Perspective
Ceará’s ongoing investment in basic education and the institutional strengthening promoted by entities like FACIC, FIEC, and Fecomércio find the ideal ecosystem in 1SBH2 to capture Brazil’s best academic and technological practices. The scientific maturation championed by ABH2 provides the essential foundation to guarantee the legal and operational certainty that global funds and investors demand before injecting capital into the Pecém Hub.
The CTN Hub analysis and technology team will closely follow the guidelines and innovations presented at 1SBH2, connecting the scientific breakthroughs generated in Paraná directly to the business opportunities consolidating at the vertex of the South Atlantic.
